MONDAY AFTERNOON READING

Language Confidence

After school, when everyone has had a bite to eat (Thanks to Mama Mirriam), the girls and boys divide up into separate reading groups. A majority of the kids go to primarily Xhosa speaking public schools, so getting to read English books out loud really helps them develop their fluency. We are in paernership with Fundza. www.fundza.co.za

Fitness and Health

After a long day of school, and reading, to help burn off steam, the activity facilitators and kids go for a jog from IY to Hout Bay beach burn off any extra energy!

BUDDY MATHS

About Subtitle

Most of township school in South African are over crowded in class, at Sakhisizwe students are given a chance to practice math with their buddies and use tables to to learn online.

TUESDAY AFTERNOON SOCCER AND NETBALL!

Team Work through Sport

After Everyone finishes up their homework and Math online, the boys play soccer (football) while the girls play Netball!

SWIM LESSON

Sport and Safety

Most Imizamo Yethu resident never learn how to swim. On average, more than one child dies every day by drowning in South Africa. Sakhisizwe YDP wants to make sure than no child no matter what their economic situation dies needlessly.

LIFE SKILLS

Thursdays are reserved for life skills classes, which aims to create a safe space to discuss several important, but difficult topics. Body development, relationships, HIV and AIDS, Sexuality, family values and community, are just a few of the subjects discussed.

RECYCLING

Due to the lack of waste infrastructure, alot of trash tends to build up in Imizamo Yethu. Sakhhiaizwe YDP wants to change that. Every Thursdays, students gather together, and canvass the area, removing and sorting through waste, in order to clean up the area.

FRIDAY NIGHT PROGRAM

Friday nights are for Exploring your creativity and spirituality! Students sing, dance, act, participate in bible studies, and so much more! It is many kids and staff favorite night of the week!
